Where the hell am I going?

10:59:14 pm, by Josh Email , 132 words, Categories: Announcements [A], Amazing Race

As I've alluded to on EW.com, I'm leaving the magazine next week for another job; I'll be the new editor of Vulture.com, which is the entertainment blog for New York Magazine's website. It's a really smart, funny blog about all things pop culture, and I hope you'll check it out. It breaks my heart to abandon The Amazing Race after this Sunday's episode; I've spent the last nine seasons mocking people who can't finish a challenge, and now just look at me. What next, will I start calling myself "Babe"?

I'll elaborate on my feelings leaving the wonderful place that has employed me for 12 years DEAR GOD 12 YEARS, WHERE IS MY YOUTH? a little later, but for now I wanted to answer the question, "Where the hell did Josh go?"

I mean, Congratulations!
I am very sad that you won't be there to write TAR recaps and make fun videos with Dalton and stuff, though.

I think a lot of us agree with Jason, Josh...just FYI. I know you've read it in the comments on your TAR recaps. Your recaps are really an integral part of our enjoyment of TAR! (You should collect a bunch of these types of comments and send them to Van Munster so you can get on the payroll!)

I was catching up on EW and see that Alynda Wheat and Marc Bernardin were a part of Time, Inc's bloodbath - glad you got out before the massacre.
I think that Time, Inc is being very short sighted....we all will just follow you at NYMag - the bookmark is already on my toolbar.

Sadness!

I always looked forward to your recaps and general commentary on EW's site, and let's be honest... you're easy on the eyes, Wolk! :)

Good luck! We'll all keep reading if you keep writing! Vulture.com bookmarked!

SO sorry to hear about you leaving. Your reviews were the reason I started following EW regularly. Brought many a smile and "laugh out loud" to somewhat stressful work days. Many good wishes for your in your new position!

I just watched Survivor Talk, and I LITERALLY had a tear in my eye with your farewell montage! How sad is that??? I'm going to chalk it up to the Sarah McLachlan song (oh, and you singing).

Josh, just wrote and commented on your last AR recap on EW.com. But you forgot one thing. I know all of the teams left are all pretty likeable but are you rooting for one team over another?

Ok, this is cruel. Get us junkies hooked on recaps and Survivor Talk and then take the greatness away. Hopefully, whomever replaces you at EW can do justice. Good luck with your new gig, obviously New York magazine notes the awesomeness. Their gain is EW's loss. Rock on Josh, and work on those rebounds before its too late.

One of the reasons I could drag my butt out of bed on Mondays was that I knew I could read your AR recap when I got to work. My coworkers will appreciate not hearing the snorting that comes from me trying to quiet my laughter. Looking forward to reading your new truth flavor. Booger!

So excited you're going to Vulture! You're sense of humor and tartness will be a perfect fit. And, um, will you be adding TAR to the Vulture recaps? If only fiction, how about Lie To Me? I'm just sayin'.

Congrats on the new job! I visited EW.com regularly for 2 reasons: the TAR recaps and Jeff Jensen's Lost stuff. You'll be missed!

So many great phrases coined; browsie, Munsie, and of course the teste-Phils.

My favorite quote of all time was from a few seasons back: "I am terrified of heights myself, and if I ever did make this leap, it would be only after they tasered me to get my hands to stop clutching the guard rail, and the last thing I would have seen when the cord pulled taut would be my own crap sailing past my head."

Great stuff.

Good luck in the new endeavor and I'll definitely check out Vulture.com.

Josh - I can't tell you how many mornings I have ignored my daughter's plea for more cereal while I doubled over in my chair laughing while reading your TV Watches. I had to also stop watching the Real World because I am too old, but was so sad when you gave up as well. Your analogies are hilarious. I will have to add vulture.com to my already packed morning routine.

Thanks for making me laugh so often.

Thank you all for your nice posts. I feel like my rickety blog is barely staying intact; it's not built to handle actual web traffic. But really nice to hear from everybody, and I'm flattered to hear that you enjoyed the TAR recaps so much. I think there may be some degree of withdrawal starting next Sunday when I'm not doing them anymore, so I'll try to post a few thoughts on this blog. Can't promise the depth of analysis as I've been doing (last night I fell asleep a few times at around 1:45a.m. with my head on the keyboard, and tonight I had to hose off all the dried drool), but I'll try to get something down. It'd be nice to have an outlet other than me puttering around the house, muttering about Sam and Dan and humming "Sweet Georgia Brown" over and over again.

And a couple of answers: April, I guess I -- like God -- am rooting for the Globetrotters. Seriously, how do you not root for a Globetrotter? It's like being anti-Superman.

And to Steve, who wrote "work on those rebounds before its too late," I would say it's way, way too late.

Josh, good luck with everything. Of course you will be missed at EW, but I've already bookmarked Vulture.com and I'm positive-spinning this as an excuse to find something new to read regularly. Thanks again for all of the constant laughs you provide...I'll keep doing my own TAR recaps (with a post-script acknowledgement of the TAR mentor).

So bummed you are leaving your faithful EW readers mid-season Josh - but equally glad for your new opportunity. You may be nostalgic about cleaning out your office (yes, I read backwards)....just think of our nostalgia in reflecting on your Amazing Race recaps. I think if I had a hall of fame, I'd have to vote your recap about the challenge with the cheese wheels (broken sleds, rolling cheese wheels, tumbling racers, all out cheese-challenge chaos) as the the one that made me giggle so hard I had tears running down my face...at my desk. It was lovely. There were so many. When I watch an episode, there are always moments when I think "ooh...Josh is going to have a field day with this!" Of course we'll move on and give the new writer a whirl (you've alluded that she will be female)....but I can tell you right now she's no Josh Wolk. Sigh. Best wishes to you....I will continue to follow your writing.
